SPRAYED CORK ROOF COATINGS

Tired of dealing with loose shingles and a leaky roof? Consider retrofitting your home or commercial building with a sprayed cork roof coating by ThermaShield. Our proprietary formula instantly seals up cracks and holes. Plus, you can apply it directly on top of existing shingles or plywood sheathing. Weatherproofing is just one reason why people choose ThermaShield’s sprayed cork products. These products also represent the next generation in energy efficiency and green building practices.

Energy Efficiency Through Inhibited Heat Transfer

Cork is a natural product of the cork oak tree. This outer layer of bark protects the tree from extremes of weather and temperature. When sprayed cork is applied to a building, it works in the same way. Cork is an effective insulator that inhibits the transfer of heat. In fact, thanks to its poor conductivity and cellular structure, cork resists heat transfer up to 30 times better than concrete.

One of the ways that heat can transfer from one place to the next is through thermal radiation. Thermal radiation is responsible for the heat loss from buildings during the winter and buildings’ heat gain during the summer. ThermaShield’s cork products interfere with this process, thanks to their emission values of 0.55 to 0.59. These emission values are superior to those of standard building materials, which are typically between 0.82 and 0.9.

ThermaShield’s sprayed cork products are available in a range of colors. In addition, custom colors are also available upon request. One of the many advantages of using our cork roof coatings is that, regardless of color, they will maintain peak performance as insulators. Typically, lightly colored cork will maintain a peak surface temperature of between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. The range increases to 44 to 46 degrees Celsius for darker cork. However, ThermaShield’s proprietary blend maintains the peak surface temperature at 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, regardless of the product’s color. In other words, those hot Texas summers are no match for ThermaShield’s cork roof coatings.

Key Advantages of Cork Roof Coatings

Boosting a building’s energy efficiency is one of the main reasons why people choose ThermaShield’s sprayed cork roof coatings in Texas. But it’s certainly not the only reason. Consider the following benefits:

Durability

Sprayed cork roof coatings can last for years, thanks to the surface’s ability to absorb and distribute the forces of an impact.

Fire Resistance

Structural fires are every building owner’s worst fear. Cork is a safe building material that naturally resists flames.

Weight

Did you know that 80% of the volume of sprayed cork is air? ThermaShield’s products are very lightweight, making them an ideal choice for weight-sensitive roofs.

Sustainability

No cork oak tree is ever harmed or killed during the harvesting process. During a tree’s 200-year+ lifespan, cork harvesting can take place every nine years!
